Dulles Metrorail Project Investigations Continue by the U.S. Department of Transportation

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Earlier this year, Frank Wolf and Tom Lathan requested an investigation be done into the MWAA.  General Calvin Scovell, the U.S. Department of Transportation Inspector made an announcement on Tuesday that they needed to decide if the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is complying with the law.  Also it needs to be determined if they are taking full responsibility in the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project.

The MWAA board dug a deeper hole, literally, by voting 9 to 4 to construct a high cost below ground metro station at Dulles International Airport.  This added an additional $330 million dollars to the project expenses,  totaling it out to more than $6 billion dollars.

There are new stations planned at the Dulles Airport and eastern Loudoun County raising the cost of the second construction phase by $3.5 billion.

Calvin Scovell, U.S. Transportation Inspector made it clear that the audit which started earlier this year was to ensure that the Dulles Rail Project is delivering on schedule, and that the budgeting is completed.  He states that the audit was necessary to ensure these things and that its almost completed.

The new requested audit, due to the recent bad decisions by the board, is to start in 6 days from now 06/27/2011.
